Mansio ProjectTHE MANSIO PROJECT – various points along Hadrian’s Wall up to September 2016

The Mansio has its roots firmly based in place and history and will be brought to life in a series of geographical locations that are rich with internationalism, social and architectural heritage. Hadrian’s Wall is considered to be the most important monument the Romans built in Britain.

The Mansio will become a ‘place of rest’ for visitors, a touring tea-house where the public can experience contemporary art, literature and video in a bespoke twenty first century ‘building’ within an important historical and geographical context. Stopping at internationally significant sites including the roman forts and townships at Hexham, Arbeia, Vindolanda, Senhouse, Walltown Crags, Birdoswald and Carlise Castle. TAWNY OWL - Nest Box Walks
An opportunity to look at the young tawny owls but this will depend on how the breeding season goes so it is not possible yet to set the dates for these. Armed Forces DayARMED FORCES DAY
Saturday 25th June 2016

Come and enjoy a free, family fun day in Hexham between 10am-4pm to support Armed Forces Day. Classical vehicle parade, troops from the Fifth Fusiliers and its marching band, children’s rides, art and craft stalls and music in the bandstand. Download or view a poster for more details.

An exhibition of new works by painter Jos Mahon (sketch top left) and ceramicist Sue Dunne (bottom left) who have been exploring the distinctive landscape of the North Pennines.

Over the past year, Sue has taken inspiration from the colourful, flower rich hay meadows in the Dales whilst Jos has been walking to most of the trig points on the high moorland summits attracted to the far horizons and skies.
