An exhibition of new works by painter Jos Mahon (sketch top left) and ceramicist Sue Dunne (bottom left) who have been exploring the distinctive landscape of the North Pennines.

Over the past year, Sue has taken inspiration from the colourful, flower rich hay meadows in the Dales whilst Jos has been walking to most of the trig points on the high moorland summits attracted to the far horizons and skies.

Enjoy Hexham’s rich heritage through a variety of tours and events at venues throughout the town (and beyond). From crime, punishment and torture at the Old Gaol to the mysteries of the bell tower in Hexham Abbey. All free but some events need to be pre-booked.

Mansio ProjectTHE MANSIO PROJECT – various points along Hadrian’s Wall up to September 2016

The Mansio has its roots firmly based in place and history and will be brought to life in a series of geographical locations that are rich with internationalism, social and architectural heritage. Hadrian’s Wall is considered to be the most important monument the Romans built in Britain.

The Mansio will become a ‘place of rest’ for visitors, a touring tea-house where the public can experience contemporary art, literature and video in a bespoke twenty first century ‘building’ within an important historical and geographical context. Stopping at internationally significant sites including the roman forts and townships at Hexham, Arbeia, Vindolanda, Senhouse, Walltown Crags, Birdoswald and Carlise Castle. Friday September 16th – Saturday September 24th 2016

Hexham Abbey Festival of Music starts with something completely new - the graffiti and mural artists collective Urban Canvas, who will be using the inside of the ancient Abbey as inspiration to create huge visual work of art before the audience’s eyes. Not to be missed, it is the first of several community events.

The Festival continues with the Hexham Abbey Festival Chorus celebrating its 40th Anniversary, Balkan folk and dance music, a cappella from Renaissance, works for organ and electronics by Automatronic, international concert pianist Janina Fialkowska, baroque from Red Priest and more thrilling performances in the Young Musicians’ Platform concerts.

Hexham residents and visitors are in for a horribly good time as the town goes ghostly for the ever-popular Spook Night celebrations on Saturday 29th October. From 3pm – 9pm there’ll be frights, food and fun for all the family on the scariest night of the year.

The town will be filled with the weird and the wonderful as witches, ghouls, shapeshifters and perhaps the odd mummy head down to the town centre to join the fun. Face painting, competitions, a witches den, dance displays and story-telling ensure there’s plenty to occupy the whole family. Thrills are guaranteed as Beaumont Street and the Market Place are transformed into a spooky fun fair with a wide range of rides including, of course, the Ghost Train and many more…..don’t forget to scream if you want to go faster!

Hexham Priory School will hold its annual Family Christmas Fayre. Activities will include Santa's Grotto, Face Painting, tombola, ornament decorating, hot food and drinks, various children activity stalls.

Outside stall holders are also invited in to sell their goods. (Tables are £25 and a £5 deposit is required to secure the booking, please contact Laura). Everyone is welcome to attend, admission is free. All proceeds will go towards Hexham Priory School.
