What's On in Hexham - A photo taken at the 2012 Spook Night in Hexham Town Centre AUTUMN EVENTS AT COGITO BOOKS – Afternoon Tea with Sue Gee and An Evening with James Rebanks.

Afternoon Tea with Sue Gee (Hexham Abbey)
8th October 2016

Sue Gee is the acclaimed author of ten novels and a volume of short stories. Her most recent book,Trio, is an exceptionally poignant historical romance.

Set in 1930s rural Northumberland, it tells the story of a grieving schoolteacher who is brought back to emotional life by a group of musicians, the trio of the title.

An Evening with James Rebanks (Forum Cinema)
14th October 2016

James Rebanks farms sheep on land that's been in his family for many generations. His autobiographical book, The Shepherd's Life, seized our imagination straight away as a fascinating and fluently written, often funny account of the things that matter to James: Herdwick sheep, family, education, tourism, farming life and the future of rural economies.

The talk by James Rebanks is preceded by another screening of the wonderful heartwarming film Addicted to Sheep.

Saturday 29th October 2016
3pm - 9pm

Hexham residents and visitors are in for a horribly good time as the town goes ghostly for the ever-popular Spook Night celebrations on Saturday 29th October. From 3pm – 9pm there’ll be frights, food and fun for all the family on the scariest night of the year.

The town will be filled with the weird and the wonderful as witches, ghouls, shapeshifters and perhaps the odd mummy head down to the town centre to join the fun. Face painting, competitions, a witches den, dance displays and story-telling ensure there’s plenty to occupy the whole family. Thrills are guaranteed as Beaumont Street and the Market Place are transformed into a spooky fun fair with a wide range of rides including, of course, the Ghost Train and many more…..don’t forget to scream if you want to go faster!
