Animating Hexham

9-12 September, Hexham Town Centre

Sep 9 2021 - 7:00pm to Sep 12 2021 - 9:00pm

Animating Hexham will see our historic town centre animated by artists and local families, inspired by the town’s heritage.

Funded by Historic England and led by Queen's Hall Arts Centre, Animating Hexham aims to discover stories and evoke memories of our town’s high streets and buildings, using these to inspire animations and conversations about Hexham’s heritage. Animations will be projected onto shopfronts and landmarks throughout the main shopping streets from 9-12 September, helping to define why Hexham’s heritage is important to the community and what value the town centre will have in the future.

Six professional artists have been commissioned via an open call to create animations based on stories and memories about the High Street collected by Northumberland Archives and Hexham Libraries: Ed Merlin MurrayErin McGrathJason KerleyPetra SzemánRonan Devlin and Rozi Fuller.  Animator and filmmaker Sheryl Jenkins is also working with families to create a series of animations to be showcased online and projected in Hexham town centre.
