Armourer & Daisy - A Story of 1918

Join us for a walking tour of WWI Hexham with
Armourer & Daisy – A Story of 1918. We'll see Hexham through the eyes of two Hexham residents who fell in love during The Great War.

Saturday 8th September 2018

To commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the end of the First World War, we have a special event on Saturday 8th September.
Armourer & Daisy – A Story of 1918 will be an interactive tour telling the story of two Hexham residents who fell in love during The Great War. Armourer went to war in France and Daisy was a nurse. They corresponded throughout the conflict (there are hundreds of letters!) and when they got married in Hexham Abbey in 1919, it was the first time since the start of the war that the Abbey bells had rung.

Historical re-enactment group Time Bandits will be running in-character walks around town as well as an Antiques Roadshow-style booth at the Queen’s Hall where locals can bring items to be identified and share stories. A free storytelling session will be held in Hexham Library at 10.00am where kids can get involved in a slightly spooky storytime.

Tickets are available from Cogito books NOW and from tour guides on the day. Tickets cost £5 for adults and children go free. Tours leave from outside the Abbey shop at 11.00am, 1.30pm and 3.00pm.
