Where is Hexham?

Hexham is a small market town in Northumberland. We are in the far north of England close to Hadrian's Wall and the Scottish Borders. Newcastle-upon-Tyne is around 20 miles away to the east.


By train

Hexham Station is on the main line from Newcastle to Carlisle. 

By road

Hexham is located on the A69, 20 miles west of Newcastle upon Tyne and 30 miles east of Carlisle.

We have a growing number of electric car charging points in and around Hexham. The most central are currently at the Gilesgate Car Park at the bottom of Market Street. 

By air

Hexham is approx 20 miles from Newcastle Airport. There are no direct public transport links from the airport to Hexham. However, taxis are available from the terminal. You can also take the Metro to Newcastle Central Station and get a direct train to Hexham from there.

By bus

Hexham is well served by buses from around the region - see and › North East › Northumberland

Coach parking & drop off

In Hexham we have a coach drop off bay outside Hexham Abbey. On arriving into Hexham, turn left past the railway station, then turn right at the next roundabout. Drive up to the top of the street and take the next right turn which is just past Benson’s Monument on Beaumont Street. The coach drop off is at the bottom of Beaumont Street outside the Abbey. Coach Parking for visiting coaches is available free of charge in Wentworth Car Park.
